Phase 2 of the Rockridge-Temescal Greenbelt (FROG Park) construction was underway, including expanded play areas at Hardy Park, native plantings along Clifton-Cavour pathway, and improvements at Redondo. The community needed to raise $25,000, with city and state bond funds covering most costs.
FROG Park Phase 2 fundraising continued; community needed to raise up to $25,000 with a September 18 work party planned. Design renderings showed Hardy Park expanded plaza and DMV greenbelt pathway improvements.
RCPC announced a $2,500 matching grant for FROG Park Phase 2 year-end fundraising. Over $15,000 raised so far toward $25,000 goal. Groundbreaking planned for after the first of the year, but an irrigation system problem requiring full replacement added costs. Community needed to reach $25,000 to preserve all planned park elements.
FROG Park received $125,000 from Measure DD for creek-related projects, with $40,000 set aside for a public art component. The Public Art Advisory Committee of the Oakland Cultural Arts Commission was engaged to develop a Request for Proposal process for an artist-designed component related to the creek's natural history.
Phase II construction of FROG Park begins in March 2006, contracted to BBI Construction. The project includes new swings, water fountain, fence, kiosk, basketball courts, plaza, enhanced pond and stream, ADA accessible equipment, and greenbelt completion from Clifton to Cavour. Funded by Councilmember Brunner, Measure DD, and an ADA Fund. The $100K donation from Ignacio De La Fuente was a catalyst.
