Claremont Water Tunnel seismic retrofit (EBMUD)

EBMUD is undertaking a major $31 million seismic retrofit of the Claremont Water Tunnel, the 'crown jewel' of the local water system. Work involves blasting a bypass through the hill around the most vulnerable section crossing the Hayward Fault, and filling voids between the pipe and tunnel wall with new grout. Work started the prior summer and is scheduled for completion by June 2006.
